In this project, a partnership between DCCS and Know-center was established to uncover hidden suppliers and their complex relationships across the entire supply chain. Unexpected disruptions, e.g. earthquakes, volcanoes, bankruptcies or nuclear disasters have a huge impact in major companies’ supply chain strategies. It is very difficult to predict the real impact of these disruptions until is too late. Small, unknown suppliers can hugely impact the delivery of a product. Therefore, it is crucial to constantly monitor for problems with both direct and indirect suppliers. Using the knowledge diversity of both our business areas and research teams it was possible to extract information from the web about multiple not well-known suppliers. This information was then analyzed and a network exploration tool was put in place to uncover complex relationships between the suppliers of a major automotive company.
